2018 Buick Encore Review
If you need an SUV that’s strong enough to weather the Mercer winter, but nimble enough for the crowded New Castle streets, the Encore may be just the ticket. That’s why we wrote this 2018 Buick Encore review to help our Hermitage area customers know what to expect from this compact SUV.
2018 Buick Encore Engine Specs
The Buick Encore comes with two engine options, with a 1.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder as the standard. This engine generates 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. It will get you an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 25 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.
If you want a bit more power and a more efficient engine, however, it’s worth an upgrade to the available 1.4L SIDI turbocharged engine, which generates 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. This engine will get you up to an EPA-estimated 27 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.
The secret to this engine is the spark-ignited direct injection (SIDI), which improves overall engine efficiency by pumping gas directly into the cylinder. This allows for a more effective combustion, optimizing engine output.
All engines have front-wheel drive as the standard, but all-wheel drive is an option.
As you cruise through town in your Buick Encore, you can rest assured knowing that this compact SUV offers several features that work to keep you and your family safe.
Available Side Blind Zone Alert, for example, provides visual alerts if another vehicle is detected in your blind spot while attempting to change lanes. Available Lane Departure Warning also provides warning if you’re unintentionally drifting out of your intended lane of travel.
The available Forward Collision Alert attempts to prevent a forward impact by warning you if you’re approaching a vehicle or other road hazard ahead of you too quickly.
If an impact does occur, you’ll be connected to a dedicated OnStar® advisor who can walk you through the aftermath and send emergency responders.
Buick Encore Interior
When you take off on an adventure, there are two very important things to consider: your road trip playlist and how much you can pack.
To answer the second question, the Encore seats five, with a spacious 18.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. With the second row folded flat, you have 48.4 cubic feet of cargo volume, which is approximately 15 medium suitcases.
As for your playlists, you’ll have standard Bluetooth® smartphone connectivity, plus available Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ for hands-free music streaming, texting and calling.
You can also access navigation through your connected smartphone or through the available Buick Infotainment System with Navigation, helping you to stay up to date on where you are and where you’re going.
